Florian Balmer came up with the Notepad2 application for all the users out there who need a powerful notepad-like text editor capable of handling multiple programming languages. He came up with the Notepad2 application, an application that is offered for the great price of free.

To get started with Notepad2, you do not have to go through an installation process. What you need to do is download a very small archive (it’s less than 1MB in size), extract its contents, then run the Notepad2 executable. Do so and the application will launch and you will be able to start using it.

Notepad2 features a very simple interface. You have a central pane that presents the text you’re working on. Above it there are buttons for various functions the application can perform and at the top there’s a traditional File Menu. As the layout is quite easy to figure out, you won’t have any problems getting accustomed to Notepad2 interface and to the functionality it has to offer.

Speaking about functionality, Notepad2 has a lot to offer for the awesome price of free. Here’s a quick look at the application’s main features: support for multiple programming languages, syntax highlighting, drag and drop text editing, search and replace, rectangular selection, zoom, open shell links, and more. You have all the time in the world to use Notepad2 and uncover all the functionality it has to offer because, as previously mentioned, the application is freeware.

I don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t like Notepad2. It is free, it is easy to use, it supports many programming languages, and more.

Pros

You do not have to install anything; just download an archive, extract its contents, run an executable. The interface is very easy to use. Multiple programming languages are supported. Notepad2 is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
